What Are Peanut Beetles?   They look like very small meal worms.  That is because they are in the Darkling Beetle family called Tenebrionidae.  Their scientific name is Ulomoides dermestoides, and the common names are Chinese weevil, peanut beetle, cancer beetle, asthma beetle and Micro-mealworm.  The beetle is eaten in Argentina as a treatment for cancer, kidney, lung ailments and other illnesses.

Peanut beetles are flightless, small beetles that cannot fly.  See pictures below.   The larvae of this insect, which looks like a micro meal worm,  are often used to feed fish, birds, and small reptiles, PLUS THEY HAVE LESS CHITIN than standard meal worms!

Larvae of peanut beetle can get to 3/4 max, and the beetle will be 1/8, so it is double the size of flour beetle larvae.
This is the breakdown of protein and fat of Peanut Beetles. See the Pictures with my wedding ring to see how small micromealworms are.

What You Get:
One 8 Ounce Culture.
Each culture comes with many beetles, larva and some pupae.  They will be in a food substrate.

Peanut Beetles are very easy to culture.  They are cultured exactly the way one would culture mealworms.  They do very well on a  bedding/food source of bran with a slice of potato for moisture.  We have been growing them this way for years without any issues.

They reproduce very fast.  The prolific Micro Mealworm will breed so quickly that you will have thousands of worms and beetles in just a few months of establishing this culture.  We will send complete breeding and care instructions with every purchase.

Only the worms should be fed to frogs and NOT the beetles. The beetles produce benzoquinone compounds, which can make frogs sick.  The larva do not produce benzoquinone and so they are safe and nutritious for feeding frogs.
